Bright Ideas with Pooky Lighting

WPC supplier, Pooky Lighting, tell us all about their fabulous lamps and why they make a great addition to your wedding list.

Tell us a bit about Pooky – what is the inspiration behind your designs?

Here at Pooky we exist to present beautiful, well-made, classy and somewhat eclectic lamps, pendants and shades at a price that is a lot more reasonable than you might expect.

We offer a range of lamps in endless configurations of antique brass and nickel, ceramic, glass, wood and resin; and lampshades in every conceivable shape and size.

What fabrics do you use to make your lampshades and where do you source them from?

Our design team works with manufacturers around the world. They are forever adding new products designed with extra colour and quirkiness in order to delight our customers.

We use pure Belgian and Italian linens, raw Indian silks, Turkish silk ikats, hand-printed silks from Rajasthan and block-printed cottons – we’ve searched nooks and crannies all over in search of the most gorgeous fabrics for our lampshades.

Do you recommend mixing and matching your lampshades and stands?

We definitely recommend mixing and matching your lampshades and stands, here are a few general rules to follow:

The height of the shade should be about three-quarters the height of the base.

The width of the shade base should be roughly equal to the height of the lamp, from base to fitting.

The shade should ideally be to at least half an inch (1.3cm) wider than the base on both sides, in order to keep the whole lamp looking balanced.

If you’re debating between two sizes, it’s usually better to go for the larger (although having said that, very thin and tall lamps can often suit smaller shades).

Meanwhile floor lamps will generally take a shade with a base diameter of 45cm (18 inches) or larger.

We have made a mix and match video which you can watch here.

What is your most popular lampshade shape/design?

Our most popular light is our Wisteria table lamp (as seen below). It’s a really elegant design as well as being stylish and contemporary too. This light can be placed almost anywhere and in any setting…on a bedside table, perched on a console table in a hallway or as a statement piece. She’s available in two sizes and with a choice of brass and nickel finishes, she also has a green sister.

Do you have a favourite lamp/lampshade?

One of our favourite lights at the moment is the Saba . This light oozes cool and looks fabulous wherever she goes. This is a real statement table lamp. The lamp comes in a choice of three finishes and looks fantastic with both brightly coloured and neutral shades, either plain or patterned.
