How To Build Your Perfect Wedding List

We know that the prospect of starting your wedding list can be a little daunting. With numerous gift list providers to choose from, as well as the overwhelming number of brands available, it can be a lot to take in. Should you go for formal china or informal china? What’s the difference between a Bordeaux red wine glass and a Pinot Noir red wine glass? How many dinner plates and side plates do you need? (We always suggest going for more side plates in case your starter and dessert both require a plate, or if you’re also serving a cheese course - less mid-meal washing up always goes down a treat in our books!)

1. Start building your gift list with plenty of time until the wedding

We offer 2-hour appointments in our stunning double-storey showroom in Chelsea, where you will meet your dedicated personal wedding gift list advisor. Instantly feel at home as you enter our mini-home, where gifts are cleverly arranged by room, giving you inspiration as to how they may look in your own home. Charged with a glass of champagne, a cold beer, or a Nespresso coffee, we never have more than two couples in the showroom at one time, giving you the utmost privacy and time to peruse the amazing selection of samples we have available. Our wedding gift showroom really is a haven away from wedmin stress, somewhere you and your fiancé can come to relax and enjoy, so take your time and relish in this one in a lifetime experience. You can come back for as many appointments as you like, at a time to suit you (we offer evening appointments during the weekdays, and weekend appointments on both Saturday and Sunday). We recommend that you start to think about building your gift list 4-5 months ahead of your wedding, however, we can be completely flexible and start much earlier or later than this – we have been known to build a wedding list in less than 2 days for past brides!

2. Do your research on how you would use the presents from your gift list

It can be slightly daunting coming up with all the things you need to start married life. With this in mind we have created a handy checklist for suggested gifts, which you can use as your template to get you started. Our wedding list advisors will talk you through the list and suggest brands that they think you would like for each section. They have expert knowledge and can help guide you towards reaching the right decisions for you; we’ve been doing this for over 24 years! We understand that every couple is unique and wants a gift list that is completely tailor-made, and that’s where our dedication to personal service really shines through. We also recommend that you take a look around your current home and see what items you absolutely couldn’t live without, as well as thinking about brands that you already have that you love. We advise you to have a think about how you use your home now, and how that may change in the future – do you regularly host lavish supper parties for 12, or are you more of a cosy couple that loves to enjoy time together with your nearest and dearest? All of this really helps us to get an understanding of your taste and style and will help us to recommend the perfect wedding presents for you that will last a lifetime.

3. Come to our wedding gift showroom to see your presents in real life

We think it is so important to see, feel and touch presents in real life; to feel the weight of cutlery or put your red and white wine glasses together with your champagne flutes to make sure they all sit well together. That’s where our showroom really comes to life. With thousands of presents on display, it’s the perfect place for you to come and play! We encourage couples to create their own table place setting, lay up your preferred cutlery with your chosen chinaware, glassware, placemats and even napkins. It’s so important to make sure it all sits together and that you love it – after all these presents are to last you a lifetime! If we don’t have a sample in our showroom that you would like to see, that’s not a problem. We can order almost any samples in from our suppliers for you, and we will always welcome you back for as many meetings as you like to get your list exactly as you want it. We will always go that extra mile for our couples.

4. Use your Wedding Gift List Advisor

When you hold your wedding gift list with The Wedding Present Co. you will be given your own dedicated wedding gift list advisor, who is always at the end of the phone or available in the showroom. Your gift list advisor is an expert on interiors and wedding lists and will listen to your tastes and styles in order to offer you unlimited advice and support on brands, products and wedding list etiquette. Take advantage of their knowledge and expertise and ask them any questions you may have, they are at your disposal for any every step of the way. Our advisors are there to make your life easier, taking away any unnecessary admin – leaving you to focus on the fun bits. As a company built on traditional values we also have an exclusive partnership with a wonderful antiques dealer. Within our wedding gift showroom, we have two lovely shelves full to the brim with antiques sourced exclusively for The Wedding Present Co. If you decided to add some of these unique and one-of-a-kind presents to your gift list, we would instantly remove them from our shelves to ensure that no other couple could add them. We can also put you in touch with our wonderful antiques dealer if there was something specific you were looking for that we didn’t have on the shelf – she would do her absolute best to source this for you. We love these little things that help to create a truly unique and personalised gift list, ensuring that your list is truly tailored to you.
