Today we are delighted to share the stunning traditional London wedding of WPC couple Will and Lexie. On a sunny September day, before any of use knew the word Covid, Will and Lexie celebrated their wedding with a large Church ceremony at the beautiful Royal Hospital Chelsea in the heart of London. Traditional Route Master Buses transported their guests to the wedding reception, which took place at The Saville Club in Mayfair. The bride's mother surprised Will and Lexie with a yellow NYC cab to take them to the venue as a nod to their years living in New York. Read on as Lexie highlights special moments of their day and all of the amazing suppliers who helped bring their day to life.
Wandering around the showroom with so much welcome advice and picking out all our amazing presents that we now have dotted around our home. It was such a lovely experience and the advice from our advisors was so helpful.
Some of our favourite brands at The Wedding Present Company include The White Company, Oka, Le Creuset, Alice Peto, Gluggle Jug, Oak & Rope and Sarah K.
They came highly recommended through friends and family, and this was really important to us.
Yes! Our presents arrived within a few months of us finalising our list. Our delivery day was the biggest treat! It was lovely to have something to look forward to after the buzz of our wedding had died down.
We had been living in New York for three years. Will had returned back to London earlier that year for work but surprised me at the Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue, getting down on one knee, proposing on the 20th floor with incredible views of Manhattan. Needless to say I had to move back to London at that point!
We had a London wedding so wanted to keep it chic and smart without being stuffy. It was also really important that we incorporated things that we loved. We had a New York taxi to leave the church in, old London routemasters for our guests and table names of where we had both lived up to then.
Royal Hospital Chelsea for the wedding ceremony and then the Savile Club, Mayfair for the reception and party (where I got ready beforehand and we stayed after the wedding)
At the Royal Hospital Chelsea the flowers were organised by the venue. Then the flowers and candles at the Savile Club, as well as the bouquets and button holes, were organised by Scarlet & Violet. The details of the tables and lighting at the Savile Club was all handled by the in-house team which was great.
We used Capstar Chauffeurs for the wedding cars - a wonderful company employing former servicemen and women. Then we had London Legend Route Master Buses to get the guests from the Royal Hospital to the Savile Club.
As a suprise, my mother organised for a New York Taxi Cab to take us away from the church.
My wedding dress and veil was from Sassi Holford. My head piece was by Dolecka (via Sassi Holford). My wedding shoes were from Badgley Mischka, then for dancing I changed into pumps from French Sole.
In terms of jewellery, I wore a pair of Kiki McDonough pearl and diamond earrings which were a gift from my parents. I wore my vintage engagement ring that belonged to my husband’s grandmother, a wedding ring from Robinson Pelham and borrowed a diamond bracelet from my mother.
On the morning of our wedding, I had my hair done by Michaeljohn in Mayfair. Then Anna Gibson did my makeup.
Will's morning suit and waistcoat was from Old Hat in Fulham. His shoes were from Loake. His tie was from Hermes. His cufflinks were a present from me; vintage silver with W L engraved on them from The Silver Vaults.
The Navy Blue Bridesmaids dresses were from Ghost. My Maid of Honour also wore an ivory dress from Ghost.
My flower girls wore white tulle dress with navy blue sash from Just Dresses . They wore white tights from Peter Jones and flower crowns from Monsoon and Ivory shoes from Rainbow Club. Page boys wore Austrian jackets (their own), a nehru shirt and linen blend navy chino shorts with navy blue socks (Peter Jones), black shoes (their own).
All of the our catering was done by the Savile Club chef. This was our delicious menu:
Quails eggs
Smoked Salmon Blinis
Goats Cheese Curd and Red Onion Marmalade Filo Parcels
Blow Torched Prawns with Wasabi Mayo
Prawn Cocktail Chorizo Croquettes
Beef and Horseradish Profiteroles
Macaroons Fruit Tartlets Pecan Mini Tarts
Caramelised Red Mullet with Endive, Fennel and Sauce Verde
Fillet of Beef, Sautéed Beans, Potato Rosti, Carrot and White Asparagus Bundle, Red Onion Marmalade and Madeira Jus.
Trio of Soft Lemon Curd Meringue Tartlet, Quenelles of Passion Fruit Creme with Edible Flowers and Ginger Snap Basket with Rose Chantilly Cream and Sticky Date Pudding.
Cheese tower: Hamish Johnston (Northcote Road).
We enjoyed Savile Club champagne and wines. Then after dinner with an open bar with ALL the cocktails!
Our wedding photographer was John Alexander Photography. We are delighted with our photos.
Our wedding Videographer was Pure White Films. We were so happy with the film, it is a brilliant way to relive the day.
Guy Preston was our wedding DJ. We did our first dance to Ray LaMontagne “You are the best thing”.
Some of my highlights of the wedding day were:
- Arriving at the Church
- Seeing the yellow taxi as we walked out of the church
- My godfather piping us away
- Standing on the stairs of the Savile Club watching all our guests chatting away
Enjoy every minute of planning - it doesn’t have to be stressful! Go with your gut on the dress - don’t try on hundreds. Leave a lot more time than you think for the table plan (one of my most favourite wedmin jobs!) Take a few minutes on the day to watch your guests and take it all in together quietly. So special!
