Johnstons of Elgin was founded in 1971 by Alexander Johnston, in the village of Elgin, on the banks of the River Lossie in Scotland. The family-run knitwear manufacturer uses the finest raw materials and the UK&rsquo;s last remaining vertical woollen mill to produce exceptional ranges of clothing, accessories and homeware at their factory in the border town of Hawick, at the heart of the knitwear industry. World renowned for their pioneering manufacturing techniques, Johnstons developed machinery to de-hair cashmere fleece in the late 19th century, and were the first to weave Vicuna and Cashmere fibres in Scotland. Their weaving and knitting plant is among one of the most sophisticated in the world, and their cashmere goods have a unique hand-feel after being wash and milled using soft local water from the River Teviot in Hawick.
